Are authentic Mexican breakfast tacos your idea of a good morning? It is for my mom and me. Whenever we happen to swing through Kingsland in the morning, we love stopping at El Grande Taco and grabbing a few tacos. It’s especially good to pick up breakfast before riding the horses, and share the love with everyone at the barn. It’s a great way to wake up (paired with the hot, authentic salsa generously given with each order) and extremely affordable. Not to mention the service is always impeccable.
Osvaldo is the man behind this tasty taco business. Assisting him at the grill are his wife and
adorable ten-year-old son, Luis. Don’t let his young age fool you – Luis is more than capable of taking orders and delivering them to you at your car, rain or shine. Remember that awesome salsa I mentioned earlier? Luis is the one making the homemade batches of spicy deliciousness that can quench even the hottest taste buds without overriding on taste.
The breakfast tacos are simply made without an overload of seasonings. The eggs and the accompanying meat are never dry and the tortillas are always freshly made. When your order is ready, it is always piping hot. Between my mother and me, we’ve eaten the majority of what’s on the menu, excluding the fajitas. The only difference between the breakfast tacos and burritos is the burritos are larger.
The chorizo in the breakfast taco blends in with the egg and has a deep, smoky flavor. The sausage is meaty and tender without either the egg or the sausage over shadowing the other. The cheese is a mild cheddar. While I would prefer a more authentic Mexican cheese, such as queso blanco, I really enjoyed this breakfast taco.
The lunch tacos are your choice of four meats with grilled onions and bell peppers. When these fresh-off-the-grill tacos come out, you won’t be able to wait until they cool off to eat them! The onions and peppers are grilled until they are soft with a slight crunch in the middle.
This family business never disappoints. They have a good following in Kingsland and always remember a regular customer’s order. When we interviewed Osvaldo and his family, they managed to give us a great walk-through of the business while keeping the food coming out at lightening speed. This family has more than it all going on!
El Grande Taco is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday (6:30 a.m. to noonish). This is a taco truck located across the street from the Pack Saddle Motel (2919 Ranch to Market 1431 Kingsland, TX 78639). When we visited El Grande Taco, the truck was located in Pack Saddle Motel’s parking lot. Cash is accepted and a tip jar is on the counter (please be generous – these folks are amazing!). You can order tacos ahead by calling (830) 265-8590.
